Allie Salazar
Operations Coordinator
Bio
Allie joined Green City Market in March of 2022 after graduating from the University of Chicago with a degree in Political Science. Originally from Sacramento, Allie grew up in California’s farm-to-fork capital and is thrilled to work with farmers in the Midwest to support the industry’s sustainable future.
While she always loved food and the fruit trees in her family’s backyard, Allie’s interest in agriculture solidified during her time as an undergraduate student, where she took as many classes on food history and trade as possible.
Prior to joining the team, Allie took the time to explore her interest in restaurants by working on the pastry teams at Tzuco and Lost Larson. Before that, Allie also gained invaluable experience interning in both the U.S. Senate and California State Assembly, writing her honors thesis on labor organizing in agriculture, and playing ice hockey on her university’s club team.
After deciding the Chicago winters weren’t too bad, Allie is excited for this next chapter here in the city with an incredible group committed to creating equitable food access. In her free time, she loves cooking seasonally focused and increasingly intricate dishes, picking up any and all crafts, and learning about the culinary ecosystem around us.
